Health Works!

Often times our hair is a reflection of what is going on inside of our bodies. Have you recently noticed that your hair is shedding, dry or just at a stand still as far as growth? It may be due to the diet you  have on a daily basis. Our hair needs nourishment just like the rest of our body and if we don't take the time to eat the proper diet, our hair and body will suffer. Try eating more veggies and Omega-3 foods such as fish. Taking Vitamin E along with your daily supplements can also be helpful.

Another thing that can cause hair damage and breakage is anesthesia from surgery procedures.  Anesthesia can stay in the body for up to six months and the effects may not show up in your hair immediately. Continue to moisturize and use protein treatments in the hair to help alleviate the breakage.

Question and Answer

I am noticing that my hair is breaking and thinning, should I get braids to give my hair a break?

No, getting braids when the hair is in a fragile state is a big mistake. What will normally happen is the tension from the braids will cause more harm than good.

Recommendation:  I would recommend you coming in and getting some much needed protein treatments, which is usually the cause of hair breakage.  The hair is lacking the agent needed to help give it elasticity.  It is always important, that if you are sensing some abnormal hair changes to come in and get a diagnosis of what the problem could be.  Getting braids (especially tie-zillions) will do no more good than bandaging an open wound in need of stitches.
