HEALTHY EATING WORKS
Sometimes all it takes is a better diet. Some clients wonder why their hair is lifeless and limp, and the reason is they aren’t on a very healthy diet and it takes it’s toll on the hair. There are some people who can get away with eating anything and have no effects of it shown on their hair but there are some who need to take this into consideration. Hair is also affected by medications that are in the system. Women may have build up on the hair from certain medications that can cause the hair to become discolored or even break-off with a chemical service. These are all things that should be taken into consideration when you are trying to care for your hair and maintain the hairs luster.
The key to amazing hair is a healthy diet. Try to focus on two important factors which are high quality proteins like tofu, fish and legumes. Also make sure you have enough calories (not the empty ones like, chips, pop) daily to maintain good health. Eating one or two times a day won’t get it! Go for at least 5 to 6 (and 6 is the max) consisting of 3 meals and 2 to 3 healthy snacks. (Helpful hint: take flaxseed oil daily-this helps restore essential oils and fatty acids that you may not have in your daily diet-also good for cardio vascular health!)
1.Some foods for thought – Avocados, cooking with olive oil instead of cooking oils, taking flaxseed oil, eating nuts (recommended 1 ounce per day.) Fatty fish like salmon (try at least three times a week), plenty of whole grains, fruits and vegetables (especially tomato sauce.
Healthy hair also depends upon micro-nutrients like vitamin A, C, zinc, and B complex. If you can’t get all the vitamins in by food, try a multivitamin supplement daily.
Water, Water, Water, is the key ingredient. At least glasses of day would be great for an overall healthy glow!!
Try these meal plans for that overall luminous, silky hair.
Breakfast: Bran cereal or a total breakfast cereal with skim or soy milk and a fruit, Orange juice or grapefruit juice
Lunch: Tuna sandwich on whole or stone ground bread with dark green lettuce (no iceberg please) and tomato, tossed salad with tomato, and green/red peppers and soy or skim milk and a fruit.
Dinner: Roast beef, or chicken breast. Brown rice or sweet-mashed potatoes, mixed fruit and low-fat yogurt.
A daily intake of these foods can not only increase the shine and luster of your hair it will also increase your overall health itself!
Iron deficiency is a common cause leading to hair loss in women as well. Try to get your recommended daily iron intake. Some women with iron deficiency have experienced many strands and sometimes handfuls of hair going down the drain when shampooing their hair.
More healthy choices to help avoid iron deficiency are: meat, eggs, fish, cereals, peas and beans. Try eating more dried fruits, legumes and dark leafy greens. Fruits and vegetables are also needed to provide Vitamin C which enables the body to absorb iron.
AS WITH ANY THING, CONSULT WITH YOUR PHYSICIAN BEFORE TAKING VITAMINS IF YOU ARE CURRENTLY TAKING OTHER MEDICATIONS!!!
Another problem that may cause the hair to start to break, become dry or shed profusely is when we shampoo the hair too often. I have heard cases where some women shampoo their hair every other day. This takes away from the hairs natural oils. There are also cases where women work out and then blow-dry and curl the sweaty hair! At this point you are putting heat to the toxins (salt build-up) in your hair which will eventually cause severe breakage. Putting too much heat into the hair on a weekly basis is too much as well. There are some business women who like to curl their hair everyday; this is not possible if you would like to have healthy, bouncy, shiny hair. This will make the hair look lifeless, limp and not to mention the damage to your ends which leads me to my next point. Women/girls please!!! GET YOUR ENDS TRIMMED EVERY SIX TO EIGHT WEEKS!!! This is very important! A lot of women (and you know who you are) don’t like to get an end trim because they think it is length. Sorry to disappoint you but that is not length it is DEAD HAIR that needs to come off immediately! If this is not taken care of the hair will start to break up the hair shaft eventually leading to frizzy ends and see-through hair that doesn’t curl.
